End of a Blairera Part 2

Since July 2012 I have been working for Whistler Transit (well, almost that whole time). I took a brief “sabbatical” to work for a different company and help out with communications for a TV show. Last March I returned to transit for an undetermined amount of time to help out. Simultaneously, I was running my PR company… which I started in 2008. As it so happens, my client list grew longer and longer and my plate became quiet full. This is awesome because this has all been via referrals!

So, I made a decision: it’s time to leave my current role at Whistler Transit.

The reason I built my own company was so that I can live the life that I’m meant to live. Being creative. Marching to the beat of my own drum. Traveling when I want to. Controlling my income.

My journey with transit isn’t fully over but my current roll is. The team is fantastic and I will truly miss working with everyone.

So, if you need me I’ll be creating conversations and managing perceptions in Pemberton, Vancouver, the beach, the mountains and basically anywhere with Wifi. Want to learn more about my PR Company, you can visit www.blairkaplan.ca to check me out.

I’m Back

I’m getting back into my blogging  groove. I know you are excited! I sure am. Why not start off with some awesome press coverage I recently received.

Strangely enough, one of the hardest things for me to do is to talk about / promote myself as a Communications Specialist. Most of the general population finds it hard to talk about and promote themselves…which is why these people would hire someone like me.

My job is to talk about YOU and to get people talking about YOU.

Well, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and sharing with you a little press coverage that happens to be about me. You can find it in the September / October issue of Fresh Magazine or just read the image below!

Talky McTalkerson

For those of you who know me you know that I love to talk. I especially love to talk when I have something interesting or informative to say. One of the things that fuels my passion is talking to groups about social media (which I’m obsessed with). So, last week something awesome happened… I was asked by 2 different people to speak to their groups! To me, this is a huge honour and I love sharing my knowledge and experience with others.
This week I will be speaking to the Whistler Adventure School’s social media students about my experience with managing social media while the company I work for was featured on an international TV show called Après Ski. I’m excited to share the strategy to help take the conversation from the TV screen to social media and how I managed those conversations.
At the end of the month I’ll be leading the conversation at a Tourism Whistler event about creating content and conversations online. This is a passion of mine because I have spent a lot of time learning through trial and error and reading many (many) articles. I don’t know everything and not everything works for every brand but I’m excited to share what has worked for me.
Anywho, Tuesday was an awesome day full of little successes for me. While I work for Gibbons Whistler my goal is to help brand us as an innovative company and have our social media be the heart of marketing conversations.

Social Media Content Creation Whistler Workshop

Today’s post is a shameless self promotion for the workshop I’m leading at the Whistler Chamber of Commerce on February 23 from 2-5pm. You all know that I’m great at creating/joining conversations and that I love to talk. I also know what to say and when (that would be the “PR” in me). I noticed that a common struggle for brands is not knowing what to say on social media and not knowing how to create a strategy to help “create conversations.” So, during this workshop I’m helping the attendees create a social media tactical plan, create a detailed content posting schedule and walk away with a month worth of quality content.

In Whistler or can come to Whistler for the afternoon on the 23rd of Feb.? I’d love to hang out with you and help you strengthen your online brand!
