Driftwood Bay

Ah, summer. One of the best things about the location of Pemberton is it’s close proximity to many amazing camping spots. I have driven up the Lillooet Lake service road many times to hang out at Skookumchuck Hot Springs.

This weekend we spent 1 night and 2 days at Driftwood Bay. It’s this magical spot, off the grid, with about 15 campsites. You can camp right beside it’s rocky beach an have an awesome view to wake up to. We were there to celebrate a birthday and will be going back. There is no water but there is an outhouse. Make sure to bring your own T.P. and be prepared to never want to come home!

Pemby Fest 2014

Well, that was fun. I saw some kick ass bands and am already planning for next year’s Pemberton Music Festival!

Some music highlights were ZZ Ward, Snoop, Fucked Up, Outkast, Dakota Pearl, The New Pornographers, Violent Femmes and Modest Mouse (and many, many more).

I ate about 5 grilled cheese sandwiches along with delicious progies, tacos, mini donuts, bannock, thai food and wings.

We drank in the beer gardens and in the campground. I had great dance parties with friends from Pemby and Winnipeg/Vancouver. I had blisters. I laughed…..and smiled and had a great time! Maybe Pemby Fest will even eventually hire me….a local Festering Fester…..to do year round PR/marketing?!  (hint, hint)

Here are pictures that explain why I lost my voice (some pictures taken by Thea and Rome):

Whispering Falls

We tried to go to Birkenhead Lake to camp but it was full. The reservation system is LAME and makes camping annoying. So, we ended up at Whispering Falls. We floated, had a fire, plugged in the camper and had a fan and enjoyed the heat. I accidentally branded myself on a mosquito coil, which was also fun. This is a private campground so we paid $45 a night for water and electricity. It had an awesome dock and the lake was spectacular. I say, cough up the money and check it out!

Tips from a True #FesteringFester

Festering Fester: a person who lives for the music festival! During the fest they sport multiple costumes, have their stages planned out and their soul shines brightest when surrounded by other like-minded festers. They will always be smiling and dancing.

Just to get you pumped for Pemby Fest, check out the weather in Pemberton:

We are a few months in to festival season and in a week the Pemberton Music Festival will be in my backyard so here are a few pointers for those who aspire to be a #FesteringFester:

• Pack for all weather: rain boots/boots, poncho, hat, sunglasses….
• Bring a scarf or bandizie to protect you from the sun and party dust
• Costumes. Have multiple outfits or costumes. The days are hot and the nights are cold.
• Headlamps help see where you are going at night.
• Drink a lot of water. No one wants to feel crappy from dehydration.
• Watch the music. See the bands. Dance to the beats. It’s easy to get stuck at your tent but remember YOU ARE AT A MUSIC FESTIVAL.
• Make friends. You never know who you will need to hoist you onto their shoulders.
• Pick a good meeting spot for when you all get separated!
• Fanny packs. Need I say more?
• Have gum and money.
• Hand sanitizer and body wipes.

I was lucky and attended the first Pemby Fest with an awesome group of friends. It was one of the best weekends OF MY LIFE. Sarah took some awesome pictures so check them out:
